About the Athletic Training Residency

sports medicine

The Galland Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Athletic Training Residency is a 12 month experience focused on immersing participants in, and preparing them for, a role in the rapidly expanding ATC/physician extender function. There is also a significant component of outreach, allowing ATCs to maintain and hone clinical skills while developing those talents needed to be effective and marketable in a physician office setting. Work and learn alongside some of Raleigh's best orthopaedic surgeons, team physicians, physician assistants, hand therapists, other athletic trainers, physical therapists, and other qualified professionals.

July 1st through June 30th

The athletic training residency year runs from July 1st through June 30th of the following calendar year. Each athletic training resident will be given a stipend of $12,000 (paid biweekly), paid holidays, and paid health insurance. Additionally, educational costs for Kinesio taping classes OR a casting workshop, ITAT training, NC licensure and renewal and BOC dues during the athletic training residency will be covered, as well as many learning materials and CEU opportunities. There are also many free CEU opportunities offered through Orthopaedic Specialists of North Carolina.

A rotating learning experience

Your experience will operate on two month rotations. During each cycle, each athletic training resident will have clinical responsibilities with an OSNC surgeon or sports medicine provider, outreach coverage and program administration within our sports network, as well as a rotating learning experience, including physical therapy, aquatic therapy, surgical observation, orthopaedic urgent care, chiropractic medicine, hand therapy, and/or research. If you have an interest, let us know and we will be happy to set up something for you. Schedules will be set based on the selected candidate(s') interests and previous experiences.
